We May Have a Solution... Ever heard of a thing called "Runner's Knee"?Ê If you have we bet you wish you hadn't.Ê Runner's knee, more medically known as patellofemoral pain syndrome (PPFS), is a very common injury that occurs in our wonderful sport of running.Ê Most often newer runners experience this inconvenience but it can happen to anyone (females being twice as likely to experience it than men).Ê The major symptom is pain in and around the knee cap (or patella). There is a bony groove where the knee cap sits that becomes irritated from knee cap movement.Ê The cause?Ê While the major one is overuse there can be other reasons for Runner's Knee.Ê Most often tight hamstrings/calves along with weak quads are to blame. Running on uneven surfaces (i.e. hills, trails, gravel, etc) can also contribute because they tend to cause more knee tracking problems. The cure?Ê You don't necessarily need to stop running but a change to your routine might help.Ê For example, running on softer surfaces like dirt paths, grass, and asphalt (not concrete) would be a start.Ê Also strengthening the front of your legs and strectching the back could help solve this injury.Ê If all else fails, switch to a different activity for a day or two (like biking) and give any inflammation time to die down.Ê If none of the above work try coming into the store.Ê We have some braces that might help plus we'll look at your shoes to see if they are the culprit. That's it for injury prevention 101.Ê We wish you happy legs and fun running!
